Sustainability and social impact aren’t buzzwords at Look Brilliant. They shape what we do and guide our actions every day. We believe branded merch can be a force for good, creating positive change for people and the planet. That’s why we’re proud to be a B Corp. Given that March is B Corp Month, it’s only fitting we discuss what being a B Corp really means.

What is a B Corp?

A certified B Corporation (B Corp) is a business that meets high standards of environmental and social performance, accountability and transparency. The ‘B’ stands for ‘Benefit for all’, meaning all stakeholders—employees, customers, suppliers, the community and the planet. Businesses set about certification because they want to go beyond profit and ensure their operations make an impact.

B Corps are certified by B Lab, a global not-for-profit network, and certification isn’t an easy badge to earn! Businesses must pass the extensive B Impact Assessment, then recertify every three years. This ensures we continually meet those high standards.

Our B Corp Journey

We started our B Corp journey in March 2022. We knew we were a business for good, but we wanted to back that up. Our industry can contribute a fair bit to landfill, yet it’s easy to make big claims about sustainability that simply aren’t true. At Look Brilliant, we wanted to be different. We wanted proof that our work made a real, positive impact.

The certification process

So, we dived in. We engaged a B Corp specialist and formed a dedicated project team. Initially, we thought the process would be pretty straightforward (we were already doing good, after all), but we quickly learned otherwise! The B Impact Assessment dissected every part of our business, from our policies and procedures to our supply chain. It took us 21 months of hard work. Then, in December 2023, we officially became B Corp certified!

Our B Impact Score

To become a B Corp, you need a minimum B Impact Score of 80 points. We achieved 83.7—a solid start, but we’re not stopping there. The assessment helped us identify areas where we can improve, like refining our supply chain documentation. We already work with trusted local suppliers, but we can go further to ensure transparency and accountability.

What this means for our future

Being a B Corp is an ongoing commitment. Our goal moving forward is to increase our score when we recertify, pushing ourselves to make an even bigger impact. We were the first in our industry across Australia and New Zealand to achieve certification, so we want to continue leading by example. Certification not only sets us apart, but also gives us an opportunity to promote sustainable and ethical branded merchandise.

Reflecting our B Corp values

Our B Corp values are reflected in the way we care for our employees, the community and the environment. We offer benefits like 5-day Christmas Bonus Leave, Birthday Leave, Grandparent Leave and Pawternity Leave, along with flexible work options to support work-life balance. Through sponsorships, we support local organisations and foster community engagement. We guide clients towards sustainable products, as well as durable, long-lasting items that help reduce waste. Additionally, we source ethical products from local suppliers, who maintain fair labour practices and transparency in working conditions.

Why being a B Corp matters

B Corps balance profit with purpose, reducing harm to the environment and driving social change. Our rigorous certification process ensures we walk the talk, so customers and partners can be confident that they’re backing real action (not marketing spin). Through our certification, we inspire other businesses to do better too. Not to mention, we support one another. We work together, amplifying the change we all want to see.
